Me & You should take a vaca
When songs like this start to come out, the sun starts to come out with them. Yes, Spring is coming. For some of you (lucky!), Spring is already there, half way there, or it’s always been spring - hate you a lil bit for that. If you couldn’t tell by the sounds of it or by the obvious cover, this song is the ‘riding top down in my coupe-convertible cause it’s another sunny day in Cali’ 2013 spring anthem. Every spring gets at least one of these.
I wanna be pragmatic - let’s look at the artists behind this one:
- Martin Solveig: 36 year old Parisian electro-house DJ/Producer.
- The Cataracs: hip-hop indie-pop (?) duo from California, featured on ‘Like A G6’.
- Kyle: independent rapper on the rise, does a pretty good job on the track.
It’s been a minute since I hear anything from Marin Solveig, of course he’s still trying to top that Hello song with Dragonette. Do you think “Hey Now” will do it?
KUUDOOS for this sick track
Fan of Tegan & Sara by any chance? or David Guetta? or Alesso?
With so many talented and creative masterminds collaborating for this song, how couldn’t it be so good? Plus, of course TWINS! (HOT)
The beat is as good as it gets (good album title *just saying*). The Lyrics are simple, but kinda emotional. If you listen to it well, it’s a dark love story disguised in an up-tempo killer beat, perfectly sung by twin sisters Tegan & Sara. I repeat: As Good As It Gets!
David Guetta & Alesso - Every Chance We Get We Run (ft. Tegan & Sara)
because we all need a little bit of this sometimes
Calvin Harris sets himself and his music apart from the bunch. He describes his new album as “epic-sounding” and like other successful DJs (i.e. Guetta) he collaborates with a group of amazing artists like Florence Welch (+ The Machine), Kelis, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo. Personally, ‘18 Months’ is my go-to album to get pumped.
It’s very up-beat, with beautiful vocals, good songwriting and a vibrant production on his part…euro house music at its best!!
Calvin Harris - Drinking From The Bottle (ft. Tinie Tempah)
Lyrics matter, and by the way RAC kills it again with this mix
I’m no expert (trying but not quite) but there are different components that make up a song. Sure the beat, the instruments, and vocals are extremely important. But lyrics matter! No, this is not a hate post to artists who write meaningless songs and are successful - they have their own merits for that. Rather this is a commentary on us, fans and listeners.
Way too many times we over look great lyrics - and awful ones as well. To the point of even signing along to the words but still our minds have been seduced by the music. Ladies: sometimes you sing your hearts out to songs that - if you think about it - are diminishing to you, and some others that in any other context you would say are “totally inappropriate and just not the kind of girl I am”.
Matter of fact is, even if we realize it or not, songs transform us (boys and girls) into cold blooded gangsters for 4:56s, mellow romantics for 2:43s, or party animals for 5:11s.
Kings of Leon’s outstanding production, RAC’s shocking mixing and Caleb’s deep vocals cast a shadow on the other great aspect of this song: its lyrics. They are very simple and yet very powerful words that I know many of us can identify with. Now, do you know what it’s saying or having chanted to ‘U(u)se Somebo(o)dy(y)’ in the chorus makes no sense to you?
Kings of Leon - Use Somebody (RAC Mix)
U got it Ellie, no worries!!
This is what I like to call a dope track. Produced by the genius Calvin Harris to match Ellie Goulding’s beautiful singing just to result in this amazing song. It’s one of those that if you give it two weeks it will be blowing up all over the place (hopefully not TOO much)
Calvin Harris - I Need Your Love (ft. Ellie Goulding)
Can you resist something so amazing?
Usually I don’t post the same artist two days in a row, but u can’t (ok, I can’t!) really resist such an amazing, mind-blowing song so wonderfully mixed.
By the way, what do u think of The Stems Project?
Bon Iver - Beth/Rest (Work Drugs Remix)
